FROM THE SANDS OF SAUDI ARABIA TO THE GLORY OF THE GULF: A HISTORY OF ISLAM
Islam is the second largest religion in the world after Christianity and large Muslim communities now live in Europe and North America.

We frequently hear of Christian/Muslim tensions and even a ‘clash of civilisations’.In this climate it is crucial that we come to a better understanding of Islam, which has much in common with both Christianity and Judaism; all three being Abrahamic Faiths, in other words having a tradition dating back to Abraham.

This lecture traces the history of Islam from the life of the Prophet Muhammad in 6th Century Arabia, its spread Eastwards across Asia and Westwards to Spain. It includes the Sunni/Shi’a schism and the situation in the Muslim world today.

Since this is such a large topic it lends itself to a Study Day.
